Driving through Alabama right now after a breakfast stop in Birmingham. Breakfast stop because we started this journey at 5am. Ouch. Anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that this pains me every bit as much as it pained my company - momma doesn't do mornings, and especially if the sun is hours from showing its face. But I also know that you can sweeten the prospect of being on the bus all day with little things like ihop, Chick-fil-a and Starbucks. So those were all options this morning. We follow the "Quiet Bus until Noon" rules around this joint, so the natives are all in their own little worlds right now - some sleeping, some watching movies on their computers, some listening to music. And in Oxford, MS (home to Ole Miss!), our crew is working their butts off to get us show ready in just a few short hours.
Today's actual soundtrack is a little Simon & Garfunkel, but Sweet Home Alabama is the fact that this particular stretch of highway feels SO much like I-70. If I forget for a moment, I can imagine that Lawrence and Fraiser Hall are right over that hill or that we are going to turn the corner, and I'll see the tower of Topeka High and the capital building. But alas, that's not for today -- today we have another college campus to play and those are some of my favorite days of all. Each one with its own personality, its fantastic little restaurants and cute shops.
Yesterday we played University of Georgia. It rained - a lot. So we didn't really get to explore much. But I took a few pictures, which I will post as soon as I update to ios5 (I'm sorry, Jaceface! Bad internet connections lately!) I had two things I wanted to do: buy a glass to add to my collection (did it!) and steal the bulldog, UGA. Ok, not really STEAL but I really wanted to see him/her. That didn't get to happen, except in a sign that was hanging at the theatre. So there's a picture of that too :)
Pictures coming soon of Hershey, Newport News, Morganton (yeah... its about as good as I figured), Augusta and Athens.
