Let's start with the reason that I'm awake on this bus when EVERYONE ELSE IS ASLEEP. There is no good reason I'm awake on this bus when everyone else is asleep. But just for fun, let me tell you a little tale of last night:
The interwebs at the theatre weren't working so great, which makes my life a little bit of a nightmare since almost every single thing I do is on the internet. Saturday is a big day generally, because I have to reconcile both of my company credit cards, which means chasing down phantom charges at hotels, etc. We also had two shows yesterday plus we were closing in Newport News, so I had to do the settlement with the theatre as well. So, a lot. But because we have a a one-nighter tonight, all of the stuff that I generally do on Sunday had to be done last night so I could focus on settlement tonight. Got that? Its just a lot of business. And if you can't get on the internet, it is frustrating. But I finally did and I got done, so that was good. I worked while the crew loaded out -- and because they are wonderful, they just took my printer and the other things I was using and put them on their bus so I could work after my road box had already gone on the truck. I didn't get back to the hotel until about 2am and I needed to make sure the charges going to the company card were correct -- which took AN HOUR AND A HALF. What!? That hotel was a nightmare, more on that later. So by this time, its 3:30am and I've decided that it would just be smarter to stay up rather than try to nap, since my alarm was set to go off at 5:30am. If I haven't mentioned it before, I think the hours between 4:00am and 8:00am are generally for the birds (you're welcome, Dan Heinz) and I don't function well in those hours on a good day. So why I thought it would be smart to stay awake through them is really beyond me, but at the time, it made perfect sense.
There is nothing on hotel cable at 4 in the morning. There just isn't. Unless you are interested in infomercials, bad Lifetime movies or ESPN. And I will choose ESPN 10 times out of 10, because having sports on as background noise is soothing to me. I know that's weird, but thats what happens when you grow up in a household of all boys! So it was just me, college gameday and Auburn vs. ... someone. I think Florida, but I might be making that up. Took a shower, packed by bags, downloaded movies, got the troops on the bus and we were headed to North Carolina. At this point, I'm sure I'm gonna sleep through to lunch because I'm exhausted. But then I have the birthday exciteds -- getting so many fun texts and fb messages and I CAN'T SLEEP.
(PS., we interrupt this blog to post a message to Erin & Kim: we are driving through Durham as we speak. I'm gonna need to get off this bus and replace my broken Duke glass immediately.)
So here I am, awake, exhausted and enjoying the NC landscape. I really hope there are comfortable beds in this hotel tonight because I plan to enjoy every last second I can... which might be about 6 hours. Happy One-Nighter Week!
